What does 'mentor' mean?
One definition among various others by Bozeman,
Freeney (2007)*: "Mentoring is a process for the informal transmission
of knowledge, social capital, and the psychosocial support perceived
by the recipient as relevant to work, career, or professional development;
mentoring ... [is] between a person who is perceived to have greater
relevant knowledge, wisdom, or experience (the mentor) and a person
who is perceived to have less (the mentee)".
In which way does a mentor / a mentee get selected for me?
We take all the information you are stating into close consideration and try to find the best suitable counterpart for you. Nevertheless, we can not guarantee you to get a mentoring relation. Some patience might also be necessary until a person is found. Meaning, you might not get a response immediately after you hand in your enquiry. The following two principles get applied as guidelines when a mentoring connection is established: The mentor is, compared to the mentee, usually one or more phases ahead in life (e.g. the high school student gets connected to a university student or a young working person, a young wife gets connected to a experienced mother etc). And the mentoring relations we connect are on a woman-woman respectively man-man basis.
I can't believe this is free of charge. Are you serious?
Yes, we are serious! No charge now or ever. We as university students from various academic fields, each of us with working experience in several countries, got excited about possibilities which arose out of mentoring relations. Wisdom and experience shared in a trustful surrounding build fertile soil for a perfect learning environment - outside of a classroom and beyond any stated curriculum.
